April rainfall so far reaches 81 per cent of normal monthly average

The average rainfall for April, from the beginning of the month until April 16, is already 81 per cent of the average for the whole month, according to data released by the met office.

The most rain fell in Kellaki, 204 per cent of what is normal and Pano Panayia, 153 per cent of the average precipitation.

The total rainfall so far was 24.1 millimetres, while 29.9 millimetres is normal.

The least rain fell in Frenaros during the period from the beginning of the month until now, 0.8 mm or 6 per cent of the average for the month, followed by Kornos with 5 mm or 19 per cent.

For Limassol port the amount was 26.4 mm which corresponds to 132 per cent of the average and Athalassa in Nicosia 25.7 mm or 117 per cent of the average.

The reservoirs were on average filled 90.3 per cent with water on Tuesday.

Heavy rain and hail was reported all around Cyprus earlier on Tuesday morning, with the biggest problem being in Limassol, where roads were flooded.

Snow also fell in the Troodos mountains.

Meanwhile, lightning caused damage to the Vassilikos power plant, resulting in power cuts at various places around the island for several hours.
